How to Elope in Santorini, Greece

I may be biased, but Santorini, Greece is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Seeing its magic in person further validated that getting married here is a literal dream!! This beautiful Greek island in the Aegean Sea has iconic blue-domed churches and white-washed buildings that you’ve probably seen in pictures. The views from here are absolutely stunning, especially at sunrise or sunset. Everything from the culture, food, fresh air and charming towns, makes it an unforgettable location to elope and start your next chapter.

The best time to elope in Santorini is from April to October when the weather is warm and sunny. The peak tourist season is from June to September, so if you prefer a quieter and more intimate experience, consider visiting in April, May, or October. Tons of cruises arrive every day in the early afternoon and depart by sunset, so the only intimacy you’d have then is in hours before dawn or after dusk. Also keep in mind the warm/dry season is considered April to October, while the rainy season lasts from November to early April.

Okay so you have your heart set on saying I do in Santorini, now what? I highly suggest finding a photographer that has elopement experience, and can act as more of a guide along this journey with you. This way you will feel relaxed, confident and at ease. Next, landing on a location to elope! I have mapped out three top options, let’s dive in!

Elope in Santorini from the Sea

Didn’t think the view could get better? Imagine seeing the entire island from the sea! Renting a catamaran is a unique and romantic way to elope and explore in Santorini. The adventurous vibe and peaceful energy of the sea is the perfect way to capture your love and have memories to last a lifetime. Here are a few catamaran rental companies to consider:

Elope in Santorini at a Unique Villa

If a catamaran or hotel in Santorini doesn’t feel like your cup of tea, there are so many AirBNB options that will check your boxes! This would be ideal for a bit of a larger group, and may offer other areas of exploration after you tie the knot! Here are a few I think would be a good fit for an elopement in Santorini, Greece.

“Astra” Private Cave House: This beautiful Villa is located in the charming village of Oia and features a private garden and pool perfect for I do’s! This Airbnb offers a luxurious and intimate setting for an elopement ceremony, and would be ideal for those inviting guests to there big day.

“Villa Santorini Dreams”: This spacious villa is located in the village of Imerovigli and offers a taste of peace and tranquility away from the crowds and the busy town, just minutes away from the center of the island. It features a private pool, beautiful garden, and traditional Greek architecture. The villa can accommodate up to six guests, making it perfect for a small wedding party.

Archipel Mansion: is perched on the highest point of Fira, the capital of Santorini, and offers rich history and 180 views of the Santorini Archipelagos. This home can accommodate 8, and has a private hot rub and stunning outdoor area to relax after your ceremony.

Elopement Day Activities

While traveling to Santorini, there are many activities to partake in that allow you to enjoy nature, adventure, and spending time with those you love. Plus I highly recommend making your elopement day a full day adventure! Here are a few I highly recommend!

Private Chef Tour: One of the best ways to experience Santorini’s cuisine is through a private chef tour. This unique tour takes you to a local farm where you’ll pick fresh ingredients before heading to a private villa to cook alongside a professional chef. You’ll learn about traditional Greek recipes and techniques while enjoying a delicious meal with your partner.

Swimming: Santorini is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and boasts some of the most stunning beaches in Greece. Spend a day with your partner swimming and soaking up the sun at a beach like Perissa Beach, Kamari Beach, or Red Beach. You can also rent a boat or take a sailing tour to explore the island’s coastline from a different perspective, or simply swim from the boat!

Vineyards: Santorini is known for its unique wine varietals, thanks to the island’s volcanic soil and Mediterranean climate. Take a tour of one of Santorini’s many vineyards to sample the island’s signature wines and learn about the local winemaking process. Check out Santo Wines or Venetsanos Winery (a breathtaking spot for sunset) for a unique wine-tasting experience.

Eloping in a foreign country will be beautiful and timeless no matter how you curate it, but also remembering your experience as calm and well thought out will also ensure little to no stress. Hiring a photographer that has ample experience with these settings and details is so important. Look at this person (hint hint me) as your wedding bestie with a wealth of knowledge and good vibes. Someone who will help with recommending excursions, scouting the perfect photo spots, and making sure you two are able to relax into one another on your most important day. Santorini is calling!
